SAFETY POLICY

 

It is DM Henderson Roofing Ltd policy and its primary goal to conduct our operation with the utmost safety, promoting a healthy work environment and attitude within the company, and to prevent injuries to our fellow workers.

 

Our objective is to encourage positive attitudes in management, supervisors and workers toward safety and to promote safe and healthy working conditions that reduce accidents and near misses, and limit adverse effects of these activities on the environment.  We will also encourage cooperation in all health and safety matters, not only between these groups, but also between each worker and his or her co-workers.  Only through such a cooperative effort can a program for all workers be established and preserved in their best interests.

 

Management and supervisory personnel shall conduct periodic reviews of the Health & Safety Program with input from employees, and ensure accurate and timely dissemination of safety policies, procedures, and safety expectations.

 

By providing the resources needed to develop and implement an effective Health & Safety Program, the company is sending the message that it is serious about expanding its existing commitment to safety to every aspect of its business.  Every DM Henderson Roofing Ltd employee has the right to a safe and healthy work environment. Every employee receives the training and equipment necessary to conduct his or her job in a way that complements our on-going commitment to safety.

 

In fulfilling our goal to have an accident free workplace, while protecting people, property, and environment, we are committed to incorporating all applicable legislation into our Health & Safety Program and to the consistent compliance with that legislation in both British Columbia and Alberta.  Everyone employed by DM Henderson Roofing Ltd is responsible for maintaining our Health & Safety Program.

 

Responsibilities

 

All reasonable steps must be taken to prevent an accident.  Our safety program is the responsibility of all levels of the company.  The chain of responsibility is as follows:

                                                  

Senior Management

Senior Management is responsible for the occupational health and safety of all workers in the company, and for ensuring that measures and procedures required by the ruling governing legislation & authorities for construction projects are carried out on all projects.

 

Safety Coordinator

The Safety Coordinator is accountable to Senior Management and is responsible for the assessment & directional advice for the Occupational Health & Safety performance of all projects.  He/she must communicate safety performance openly with employees to ensure all employees are given the knowledge and skills necessary to safely perform their jobs. Leadership must be provided in all Health and Safety activities, including the development of safe working conditions.

 

Superintendents

Superintendents are accountable to the Safety Coordinator and Senior Management and are responsible for the occupational health and safety of the workers assigned to them and the implementation and direction of the Health & Safety Program on their project(s).  They must ensure compliance with safe practices and ensure that all workers on site are aware of their potential hazards and that the necessary precautions are taken.

 

Foreman & Lead Hands

Foremen and Lead Hands are accountable to the Project Superintendent and Senior Management and are responsible for the occupational health and safety of the workers assigned to them and the implementation and direction of the Health & Safety Program in the areas and positions of the project that they work and are assigned to.

 

Workers

Workers are accountable to their Foreman/Lead Hand and the Project Superintendent, and are responsible for following the policies and procedures developed for performing their job in a safe and healthy manner, all in compliance with the ruling governing legislation & authorities for construction projects.  Workers must take an active role in protecting and promoting their health, safety and accident prevention, and refrain from activities which jeopardize the health and safety of others.

 

Subcontractors

Subcontractors are accountable to the Project Superintendent, and are responsible for their workers to comply with the Company Safety Program, Policy and Procedures and to comply with the ruling governing legislation & authorities for construction projects.

 

Suppliers

Suppliers are accountable to the Project Superintendent, and are responsible for their workers to comply with the Company Safety Program, Policy and Procedures and to comply with the ruling governing legislation & authorities for construction projects.

 

For the purposes of the policy, all DM Henderson Employees and Subcontractor Employees are deemed “workers”.

 

All DM Henderson Roofing Ltd employees and others on company worksites are responsible for obeying all safety rules, following recommended Safe Job Procedures, wearing and using personal protective equipment when required, participating in safety training programs, knowing and understanding changes in policy and practice as they are implemented and posted in the workplace, and informing managers of unsafe work conditions.  Everyone has the right and responsibility to refuse to do work when unsafe conditions exist.

 

Our corporate intent is to meet, and where practical, exceed the requirements of the Workers Compensation Board and those of our customers. 

 

Purpose                                                                                                             

Our Health & Safety Program is an integrated system by which DM Henderson Roofing Ltd identifies and provides all necessary resources to deliver quality service in a safe manner that meets or exceeds customer expectations and contractual requirements.  Our Health & Safety Program ensures compliance with the Upstream Petroleum Industry, and ISNetworld (ISN).

 

Scope

This Health & Safety Program applies to all DM Henderson Roofing Ltd personnel, products, programs, and contracts.  This Health & Safety Program also applies to contractors and subcontractors, when their work has a direct impact on DM Henderson Roofing Ltd product quality, safety, schedule, or cost.
